This past weekend I spent 3 days in Missouri for a Mural Meetup with the Artist Academy by Andrea Ehrhardt. I found Andrea and the Academy several months ago on Instagram. She has a whole online program of workshops and forums for mural artists. I wanted to improve my art and my process and the Academy was a step towards the right direction.
The mural meetup was an amazing time of networking, classes, and group painting projects. 23 artists from all across the country came to learn and participate together. There were artists from Washington all the way to Florida. Having a bunch of chatty and friendly people in one spot made it feel like camp! I loved meeting fellow artists and sharing stories of our experiences. No matter where someone is at on their art journey, there is always something to learn. We swapped ideas and brainstormed. There was no gatekeeping on this trip!
Over the weekend I received instruction on how to use a painting spray gun, a boom lift, and poly tab mural cloth. Poly tab mural cloth is amazing! Poly tab is a type of material that looks, acts, and feels like wallpaper. It can even be installed like wallpaper. This opens up possibilities for murals out of state, or if a mural is in a hard to reach spot with a paintbrush. I will for sure be doing another post just on this subject. We also painted two murals together: one on mural cloth and the other on a brick wall. Both were for a local elementary school.
The weekend has inspired to do more art. I have made a list of all the new things that I want to try. I can’t wait! I felt like I was a little stagnant on my inspiration lately and this surge of feminine energy and instruction was just what I needed. If you see any new things in the next couple weeks from me, it was probably inspired by the Meetup!
